Leeds complete signing of Wilfried Gnonto

Leeds United have announced the signing of Wilfried Gnonto from FC Zurich.

Whites’ interest in the forward in August, but they left it late to complete a deal for the teenager, confirming the deal over an hour after the transfer deadline.

Gnonto, the youngest scorer in the history of the Italian national side, has signed a five-year deal at Elland Road.

The 18-year-old scored 10 goals and provided five assists for Zurich last season as they won their first Swiss Super League title in 13 years, announcing himself as one of Europe’s hottest prospects.

Leeds had also attempted to bring in Bamba Dieng from Marseille on deadline day, agreeing a fee with the club and personal terms with the player.

However, while waiting at the airport, Dieng was contacted by Nice over a move and Leeds subsequently backed away from a deal. The Senegal striker would go on to fail a medical, though a deal is not dead yet due to Ligue 1’s transfer rules outside of the window.
