Manchester United Vs Wolves ; Match Preview, Head to Head, Match Prediction

Manchester United are back in top four and will be looking to get to the third spot with a game in hand to their advantage. On Tuesday the Red devils host Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Red Devils come into this game after playing a draw away at the King Power stadium vs Leicester City while Wolves drew 1-1 with Tottenham at the Molineux on Sunday evening.

Manchester United have steadied the boat after a rocky start to their Premier League campaign. The Red Devils have now gone nearly two months without defeat in the competition, with Arsenal the last team to get the better of them. Six wins and two draws in eight subsequent games have now meant that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co. are just five points behind leaders Liverpool, with a game in hand.

Manchester United have not lost their final league game in any of the last eight calendar years (W5 D3), since a 2-3 home loss against Blackburn in 2011. On the other hand, Wolves lost their final Premier League game of 2019 (0-1 vs Liverpool); they have not lost their last league game in consecutive calendar years since 1984 and 1985.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a couple of fresh injury concerns hampering his preparations ahead of the visit of Wolves. On Tuesday, the Manchester United manager could be bereft of the services of as many as four first-team players.

Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones are definitely out, but the two players were never going to be involved anyway. In particular, Solskjaer is sweating over the fitness of Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford following the 2-2 draw with Leicester City. Lindelof is struggling with a chronic back problem while Rashford’s troublesome shoulder makes him a doubt.

Manchester United possible starting lineup:
De Gea; Tuanzebe, Maguire, Bailly, Telles; Fred, McTominay; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani

Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers welcomed Tottenham Hotspur to a ground where they had overcome Chelsea just a couple of weeks before, although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side could not get the better of Burnley at Turf Moor before the festive weekend.

The West Midlands outfit failed to return to winning ways on their own patch, but the Wolves faithful will no doubt be satisfied with a point after witnessing their side hold Tottenham to a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening. An early first-half goal from France international Tanguy Ndombele for Tottenham Hotspur was cancelled out by a late second-half goal from Moroccan centre-back Roman Saiss for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Unlike his counterpart in the Manchester United dugout, Nuno Espirito Santo has not been bogged down by any fresh roster issues ahead of the trip to Old Trafford. On Tuesday, the Wolves manager will only have to make do without three first-team players.

The major absentee for Wolves remains star striker Raul Jimenez, who is recovering from a skull fracture. Jonny Otto is a long-term absentee as well due to a knee injury while Leander Dendoncker misses out due to a muscle injury. However, in some good news, Willy Boly is fit and might be back in the starting lineup against Manchester United.

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Patricio; Semedo, Coady, Saiss, Ait Nouri; Neves, Moutinho; Traore, Podence, Neto; Silva

Head to Head

In 16 previous encounters between the two sides, Manchester United hold the clear advantage. They have won nine games, lost three and drawn four.

The two clubs last faced each other earlier this year in the English Premier League, with the game ending in a 0-0 draw at Old Trafford.

Match Predictions

  • Man Utd win
  • Rashford 0.5 goals
  • CS 2-1
